Frequently Asked Questions
Forest City Rats is a home-based rattery.
Yes, absolutely.
Our breeding philosophy is rooted in respect for the animals and responsibility to the people who welcome them into their homes.
We prioritize temperament, health, and overall vitality in our lines, aiming to produce confident, well-socialized rats who make excellent companions.
We do not breed solely for appearance or novelty traits, and we avoid animals with known health or temperament issues. All of our rats are handled daily, live in enriched environments, and are treated as family. We breed on a small scale so we can give each rat and litter the time and attention they deserve.
As avid rat lovers, we struggled to find healthy, well-socialized, and ethically bred pet rats in the area. Most options were either from pet stores or accidental litters, and we often found they lacked proper socialization or came with health issues.
We started breeding to fill that gap, offering rats that are raised with care, handled daily, and come from thoughtfully selected lines.
Our goal is to provide others with the kind of pet rats we were always searching for: friendly, confident, and raised in a loving environment.
There’s no red tape here. We don’t require an application or enforce strict rules.
We believe in keeping the adoption process simple and based on mutual trust and respect. If you’re kind, informed, and ready to care for rats properly, we're happy to work with you.
We aim to make it easy for responsible people to welcome rats into their lives without feeling judged or micromanaged.
We also focus on producing well-socialized, healthy pets and supporting adopters before and after adoption.
