Before Reaching Out...

We value thoughtful, respectful communication and are happy to answer reasonable, specific questions related to our rats, our breeding program, and our purchasing process. This page exists to set clear expectations and boundaries so everyone understands what kind of support we can  *and cannot * offer.

What we Can Help With

  • Questions directly related to our rats, availability, and purchasing process

  • Clarification on information already provided on this website

  • Brief, specific inquiries that help determine whether a rat is a good fit

What We’re Not Able to Provide

  • Ongoing or open-ended messaging without a clear purpose

  • Emotional support, reassurance-seeking, or decision-making on your behalf

  • Step-by-step guidance for setup, introductions, or ownership logistics

  • Basic care education that is already well-covered in existing resources

  • Medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment recommendations

  • A substitute for professional veterinary care

About “Professional Opinions”

We are not veterinary professionals, behaviourists, or medical authorities. All resources we support, and reference for basic care, introductions, and husbandry are already linked throughout this website.

Those links reflect our recommendations as breeders — that is why they are included.

If you are seeking a “professional opinion,” guidance beyond those resources, or confirmation of information that is already clearly available on this site, we may not be able to respond.

Personal Responsibility & Research

Responsible ownership requires preparation, independent learning, and accountability. While we are happy to share information specific to our breeding program, we cannot take responsibility for:

  • Housing and setup choices

  • Introducing rats

  • Long-term care planning

  • Medical or behavioural decisions

These responsibilities rest with the owner. If someone isn’t willing to read the information provided, they’re likely not ready for the responsibility of a live animal.

Time, Capacity & Message Volume

We manage multiple litters and inquiries at the same time, not just one request or one household. We also receive many inquiries daily, often asking the same questions that are already addressed on this website.

At the same time, we are responsible for maintaining our own household, caring for our personal animals, providing daily care for the rats in our program, and working full-time careers outside of the rattery.

Because of this, answering a steady stream of messages such as “Is this available?” or “Do you have any males?” can quickly become overwhelming.

To keep communication manageable and fair to everyone, we prioritize inquiries that demonstrate care, preparation, and familiarity with the information already provided.

Why These Boundaries Matter

Our rattery is a passion project, not a customer support service. Our professional (paid) work has shown us the value and emotional labour involved in ongoing support roles, and we are intentional about keeping our rattery sustainable, enjoyable, and ethical.

Clear boundaries allow us to continue this work without burnout.

Before Sending a Message, Please Ask Yourself:

  1. Have we read the relevant pages and linked resources on this website?

  2. Is the question specific, necessary, and not already answered here?

  3. Are we prepared to take responsibility for our own research and decisions?

  4. Would this question be better directed to a veterinarian or a qualified professional?

Thank you for understanding and respecting these boundaries.
