Second Chance Program
Surrendering
Adoption
The Second Chance Program helps small pets find new homes when their current situation changes. It’s a judgment-free space. Life happens, and we’re here to support both pets and their humans.
We were once contacted by someone in need of help, and the experience was incredibly heartwarming. It reminded us of the power of compassion and how important it is to create a safe space for people to reach out. We believe in kindness above all, and this is one small way we can offer that to others.
Unlike our rattery sales, the Second Chance Program focuses on rehoming pets in unique circumstances. These pets are not bred or sold, and the adoption process is more structured to ensure they are placed safely and responsibly.
The Second Chance Program is designed to support pets who genuinely need new homes due to unavoidable or serious circumstances. To ensure we can help those most in need, this program is not intended for:
• Individuals who have simply changed their minds about owning a pet
• Temporary care, fostering, or “holding” situations
• Pet sitting or boarding requests
All animals accepted into the program are considered fully surrendered, meaning ownership is permanently transferred to Forest City Rats and the animal will be placed for adoption.
We understand that life can be unpredictable, but due to limited space and resources, we must prioritize urgent and genuine surrender needs.
